About the Energy Efficiency team
We help our customers reduce the electricity consumption of their electric motor driven-systems, which are a key part of any industrial process from pumps supplying water to millions of homes, to fans cooling energy plants. By developing data analytics, smart insights and concrete recommendations we enable customers to take actions that can save 15% of their electricity consumption. With a team of 6 people we own the entire product development cycle for SAM4 Energy. You’ll work closely with our team’s Product Owner, who synthesizes our customer’s needs and prioritizes what new features to develop, and the Lead Data Analyst, who owns how to develop the models needed in the wider SAM4 analytics platform.
The role of Product Developer in the Energy Efficiency team is ideal for recent graduates, up to someone with three years work experience, with a data science, computer science or engineering degree. You are excited about helping companies improve their energy footprint, and eager to develop analytical solutions to key problems these companies face. This is a role in which you can practice data analytics, translate complex insights to actionable advice and develop a scalable (software) product, while developing your skills by learning from more experienced analysts and product managers.
What you will do
You’ll work closely with the other Product Developers in the team with one goal: develop analyses that help our customers to reduce their energy consumption. You play a vital role in translating customer needs to analytics, developing models in Python, running experiments to further our understanding and - at times – working directly with our users to get feedback and input on how to improve our product.
Your key responsibilities are:
Develop analytical models to improve insight into energy efficiency performance, industry benchmarks, and opportunities to improve energy footprint across a range of electric machines (e.g., pumps, fans, compressors) and processes (e.g., drinking water network, off-shore windfarm, paper production)
Work with large datasets from different sources (e.g., our own structured database of electrical signals, datasets received from customers or integrations with our partners)
Research optimization, engineering, or machine operations-related problems to come up with innovative insights based on available data
Drive improvements in further automating model development and contribute to development of our analytics suite
Work with our software engineering teams to incorporate models and outputs into our data infrastructure and customer-facing dashboards
Master’s degree in data science, computer science or (e.g., mechanical) engineering
Analytical mindset and experience in analyzing large data sets using common Python packages
Pragmatic way of working, quick to output and requesting feedback to improve the next version
Good communication and collaboration skills with direct team and wider organization
Affinity with or interest to learn about industrial processes, energy reduction opportunities and industrial machinery
